As a curly hair/natural hair forum addict, I find myself browsing the interwebs for the latest techniques and products to help retain growth and promote new growth. Some desire waist length hair, others shoulder length hair for styling purposes and others, just happy and healthy hair. My obsession with obtaining long hair, something I’ve never had before, was provoked by the Disney movie Tangled.
Our curls, kinks, and waves come with a small price at times. A very small price called a fairy knot. These horrible little knots often form at the ends of the hair and sometimes even in the middle of strands or further up the shaft. They have become a normal occurrence in my life since I became natural and I often found myself cutting inches off of my head just to free my strands of them.
I started this piece as a simple how-to guide to give a little guidance and support to parents who have teenaged daughters who have decided to transition from relaxed hair to natural hair, and it was starting to become an essay on self-love and self-expression. It was getting a little deep, so I backed off, and decided to leave the deep analysis for another time.
Fall is here and these are my November must haves.
